Comet Coffee. St. Louis, MO.

When we’re on the road, we want to spend our hard-earned bills on excellent food and drink. Our palates will discern! Our tastebuds will tingle! But when it comes to coffee, well, we admit that sometimes we just take whatever’s closest. We are sleep-deprived animals and we need our juice! So when we wander into a café expecting caffeine and calories and find ourselves with depth and deliciousness, we are very happy animals indeed. Enter Comet Coffee. It’s unassuming location in the first floor of an office plaza belies the wonders within. Comet Coffee offers very delicious coffee drinks (we are partial to cortados and cappuccinos) and even more delicious baked goods (you’ll get croissant flakes on you just looking at those crusty golden bad boys). They refer to themselves as a “micro-bakery” and this is the part where I could say, “this ‘micro-bakery’ delivers BIG flavors”, but I’m not going to do that. Even though I have every right to do so. But I haven’t even told you the most special thing about Comet Coffee in St. Louis, MO: The Rebel Within. The Rebel Within is a special baked good served only on Saturdays and it is essentially a savory muffin with a perfectly cooked soft-boiled egg in the middle of it. Like, fully ensconced in muffin. Someone explain that to me! Culinary mysteries aside, we’ll be booking Saturday shows in St. Louis for the foreseeable future. Multiple locations.

Price: Reasonable for a third wave shop. You can get most coffee drinks with a baked good for just under $10.

Health: We’ll let butter do its job here.

Speed: They move through the line quickly. Lots of costumers taking things to go.
